Planning your Oahu honeymoon and totally overwhelmed by resort options? Same.
There are dozens of hotels calling themselves “romantic” or “perfect for couples” when really they’re just family resorts with a couples massage add-on.
I’ve been to Hawaii 40+ times over the past 20 years. I was a professional hula dancer for two decades, my mom officiates weddings on Kauai, and I’m a Certified Hawaii Destination Expert.
Which is a fancy way of saying: I’ve done the research, I’ve stayed at these places (or talked to enough honeymooners who have), and I know what actually works.
This isn’t every resort on Oahu. It’s the ones worth considering, ranked by which ones I’d actually book for my own anniversary trip.
Before You Book Anything: Is Oahu Right for Your Honeymoon?
Quick reality check. Oahu is the most urban of the Hawaiian islands. You get incredible restaurants, nightlife, shopping, activities.
If you want total seclusion and nothing but beach time, this isn’t your island. Go to Kauai or Lanai instead.
But if you want beautiful beaches AND great food AND things to do beyond laying in the sand, Oahu delivers.
I covered this in way more detail in my podcast episode on Oahu’s North Shore vs. South Shore (episode 43), but here’s the short version: Waikiki is urban and busy, Ko Olina is quieter and resort-focused, North Shore is laid-back and outdoorsy.
Pick the vibe that matches what you actually want. Don’t book Waikiki if you hate crowds. Don’t book North Shore if you need restaurants within walking distance.
Okay, let’s get into it.
The Best Oahu Honeymoon Resorts (Ranked)
1. The Kahala Hotel & Resort
If you can only afford one splurge resort on your entire Hawaii trip, make it The Kahala.
This place is in a completely different category from everything else on this list.

It’s in the exclusive Kahala neighborhood about 10 minutes from Waikiki, which means you get a gorgeous white sand beach and five-star everything without the Waikiki crowds.
The property has this dolphin lagoon where Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins live. You can do Dolphin Quest encounters, which sounds touristy but is actually really special.
I’m not usually into “resort activities” but this one’s different.
The vibe is quiet, sophisticated, adults who want to relax. No waterslides. No kids’ club chaos. Just a beautiful beach and impeccable service.

Their spa has a couples package called Ho’oipoipo (Hawaiian for “romantic”) where they fill the treatment room with hundreds of tropical flower petals and do this whole three-and-a-half-hour experience with lomi lomi massage.
Or you can do the Kahala Rose In Room Bath Service if you don’t want to leave your suite.
Hoku’s is their Pacific-Asian fusion restaurant right on the ocean. Plumeria Beach House does beachfront breakfast. The Veranda has live music and excellent cocktails.
For rooms, the Kahala Beach Suite is in this private section steps from the beach. Huge bedroom and bathroom, deep soaking tub, wrap-around lanai.
The Kahala Kai Signature Suite has twin terraces and you can add connecting rooms if you’re doing a destination wedding.
Walk out to “Kissing Point” at sunset. You’ll get it when you see it.
Every guest gets complimentary admission to Iolani Palace, Bishop Museum, and Honolulu Museum of Art, which is a nice touch.
Bottom line: This is the best honeymoon resort on Oahu. If budget allows, book it.
2. Halekulani Hotel
The Halekulani has been one of Hawaii’s finest hotels since 1917, and you can tell. This is where you go for traditional Hawaiian luxury done right.
Right on Waikiki Beach with unobstructed Diamond Head views, but the property feels like a private sanctuary. Highest staff-to-guest ratio of any Hawaii resort, which means you’re never waiting for anything.
That pool with the orchid mosaic on the bottom? Famous for a reason. It’s an 82-foot heated saltwater pool with 1.2 million glass tiles creating this massive orchid design. Stunning.
Fresh orchids in your room every day. Nightly sunset cocktails with live Hawaiian music at House Without a Key (one of my all-time favorite Waikiki restaurants).
Cultural activities that actually go deep instead of the typical resort hula show.
SpaHalekulani uses traditional Polynesian and Hawaiian healing methods. Their Traveler’s Welcome package is perfect if you’re jet-lagged.
Orchids for breakfast overlooking the ocean. La Mer for fine dining French (prix fixe). House Without a Key for casual beachfront with live music most evenings.
The Ocean Junior Suite has a separate bedroom and sitting area, wet bar, two lanais. The Poolside Suite is ground floor, steps from the pool and beach.
Their highest-tier rooms include a personal butler, in-room check-in, and complimentary limo service to the airport.
Fun fact: The hotel was the inspiration for the Charlie Chan novel “House Without a Key,” which is why they named their restaurant that.
3. Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina
West side, sunset views, adult-only pool with butler-serviced cabanas.
Ko Olina was once reserved for Hawaiian royalty. Now it’s the quieter, more resort-focused alternative to Waikiki. Four Seasons sits on this sacred land with four protected lagoons nearby.

The resort faces west, which means unbeatable sunset views every evening.
They have an infinity-edge Adults Only Pool with those butler-serviced cabanas I mentioned.
Also an Adult Beach area, which is rare for Oahu. Sunrise yoga overlooking the ocean. Couples massages at their spa. Waterfront massage in private cabanas.
You can book their Spa Under the Stars package: candle-lit oceanfront cabana couples massage followed by private stargazing.
Or request a private barbecue dinner overlooking the ocean (add fireworks if you want).
More than 80 percent of rooms have ocean views. The Deluxe Room with Outdoor Spa Tub has a private garden with a spa tub, outdoor dining, lounge chair, refrigerated bar, easy beach access.
The Oceanfront Junior Suite is positioned perfectly for sunset watching.
The resort is 30 minutes from Waikiki, so you’ll want a rental car. I always recommend Discount Hawaii Car Rental because they compare all the major companies and usually have the best rates.
4. The Ritz-Carlton O’ahu, Turtle Bay
North Shore. Five miles of coastline. You can watch both sunrise and sunset from the property.
This is the only full-service resort on the North Shore. It sits on 800 acres, so it actually feels remote even though you’re only 50 minutes from Waikiki.
The property wraps around the coastline in this way that lets you see both sunrise and sunset, which is genuinely unique. Private beach area plus you’re close to Sunset Beach, Pipeline, Waimea Bay.
Horseback riding along the coast. Surfing lessons. Hiking. Multiple pools. Full spa. Private poolside cabanas. The Aha’aina Luau here is more intimate than the massive Waikiki productions.
Ocean Vista View rooms come with VIP concierge, express seating at Pa’akai Restaurant, guaranteed late check-out.
But the Beach Cottages are the move. Vaulted ceilings, deep soaking tubs, lanais, hammocks, daily surprises, dedicated Cottage Host.
When you arrive, the concierge team greets you with a fresh flower lei, champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries.
You’ll definitely want a car for North Shore.
Note: The resort rebranded from Turtle Bay to Ritz-Carlton in 2024, so if you’re searching for it, use the new name.
5. Halepuna Waikiki by Halekulani
This is Halekulani’s newer sister property, and it’s quickly becoming my top recommendation for couples who want modern luxury without paying Halekulani prices.
Heart of Waikiki but tucked on a quieter side street. Clean, modern, minimalist design. Bright whites, ocean blues. Every room has a private lanai overlooking Waikiki and the Pacific.
No resort fee. Let me say that again: NO RESORT FEE. Almost every Waikiki hotel charges $40-50+ per day. Halepuna doesn’t. That’s hundreds in savings over a week.
8th-floor Urban Oasis with infinity lap pool, hot tub, pool bar. Adults-only. Feels like a private rooftop retreat.
Halekulani Bakery & Restaurant on the ground floor makes incredible artisan breads, pastries, locally-inspired menu. Their Chocolate Room has an open view so you can watch them making everything.
All 284 rooms have 50-inch flat screens, TOTO washlets (electronic bidets), deep-soaking tubs, USB/Bluetooth connectivity.
The Deluxe Oceanview Room has a balcony, king bed, daily breakfast for two.
Recent honeymoon guests have mentioned the hotel preparing their room early and adding special touches without being asked.
This is the best value luxury option in Waikiki right now.
6. The Royal Hawaiian Hotel
The Pink Palace. Iconic since 1927. You’ve seen it in movies.
Look, I have mixed feelings about The Royal Hawaiian. It’s gorgeous, the location is unbeatable (heart of Waikiki, right on the beach), and there’s something genuinely special about staying in such a historic property.

But.
Some of the Historic Wing rooms are showing their age. Small bathrooms. Limited outlets. Recent reviews mention this, and I want you to know before you book.
The Mailani Tower rooms are more modern and spacious. If you book here, request Mailani Tower or a recently renovated Historic Wing room.
That said: the Mai Tai Bar is legendary. You can sit on the beach under those pink umbrellas with a cocktail and live Hawaiian music.

The Aha’aina Luau is Waikiki’s only oceanfront luau with Diamond Head views. Abhasa Spa has indoor and outdoor treatment rooms.
The property is trading heavily on historic charm, which is beautiful, but make sure the room matches your expectations for luxury at this price point.
The Mailani Tower Suite comes with VIP concierge, guaranteed late checkout, complimentary continental breakfast. The Historic Ocean Suite has 1920s glamour with updated decor and panoramic ocean views.
Just go in with eyes open about which room you’re getting.
7. Moana Surfrider
The “First Lady of Waikiki” since 1901. Victorian elegance, that famous banyan tree, beachfront location.
Only beachfront spa in Waikiki. Moana Lani Spa blends ancient Hawaiian healing with modern treatments, and the oceanfront location makes it unique.

The Beach House serves refined dining under that massive banyan tree. Beach Bar for sunset cocktails steps from Waikiki Beach.
Tower Premier Ocean Suite is their reimagined 1-bedroom oceanfront room. Historic Banyan Ocean Suite captures old-Hawaii charm. Penthouse Ocean room is top floor of the Tower Wing.
Similar to The Royal Hawaiian: “historic” can sometimes mean “needs updating” depending on room assignment. Just be aware.
8. Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa
Okay, hear me out.
Yes, it’s Disney. Yes, there are families everywhere.
But I’ve actually stayed here and the spa is legitimately incredible. I got a massage and it was one of the best spa experiences I’ve had in Hawaii. The facilities are gorgeous.

Ko Olina location means west side sunset views. The lagoon beaches are protected and beautiful.
They have a secluded adults-only whirlpool near the ocean, adults-only pool, adults-only pool bar, private cabanas. ‘Ama ‘Ama is their elegant oceanfront restaurant specializing in fresh seafood. The ‘Olelo Room has live Hawaiian music on the patio.
Laniwai Spa has incredible couples packages with lomi lomi massage and outdoor hydrotherapy garden.
One-Bedroom Villa is over 750 square feet with full refrigerator, washer/dryer, whirlpool tub. Signature One-Bedroom Suite is 1,500+ square feet with butler pantry.
You can also book professional photography through them, though I always recommend Flytographer instead (save $20 through my link).
Real talk: you will see kids everywhere during the day. Pools, restaurants, common areas. But if you lean into the adult spaces, book spa time, do dinners later when families have cleared out, it can work.
The Disney service level is excellent. They also have a honeymoon registry.
Worth considering if you’re Disney fans and don’t mind families around.
9. Surfjack Hotel
Completely different vibe. Vintage-inspired boutique hotel celebrating surf culture.
This is for couples who want trendy, affordable, well-located Waikiki and don’t need resort amenities. You’re out exploring most of the time anyway.
Mahina & Sun’s is one of Oahu’s best newer restaurants, right in the hotel. They host “talk story” sessions with local artists, musicians, photographers, chefs. Films projected above the pool. Adult-only swim time 6-9 pm nightly.
122 rooms total, so it feels intimate. One-Room Bungalow Penthouse is 300 square feet. One-Bedroom Suite Penthouse is 480 square feet.
Walk to beach, shopping, restaurants. No car needed.
Skip it if you want traditional romantic resort with spa, private beach, turndown service.
10. Hilton Hawaiian Village
I stayed here in the Rainbow Tower with ocean and lagoon views. It was fine.
22 acres. 20+ restaurants. Five pools. Shopping. Saltwater lagoon. Friday night fireworks. Everything on-site.

The problem: it’s massive and family-focused. Lots of kids, lots of activity, lots of crowds. Not the quiet romantic vibe most couples want.
If you do book here, book the Ali’i Tower. It’s the most romantic option with its own lobby, private pool, private bar, shorter restaurant waits, private fitness center.
Ali’i Oceanfront Corner Room has two lanais overlooking the Pacific. Ali’i One-Bedroom Suite has spectacular views of ocean, Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head.
Rainbow Tower also has great ocean views and was recently renovated.
But honestly? For a romantic honeymoon, I’d pick one of the other resorts on this list first.
Quick Answers: Oahu Honeymoon FAQs
Are there adults-only resorts on Oahu?
No. Hotel Wailea on Maui is the only true adults-only resort in Hawaii. Several Oahu resorts have adults-only pools or areas, but no entire properties.
Where can I find honeymoon packages?
Costco Travel if you’re a member (often best rates). Most resorts listed above offer honeymoon-specific packages with perks.
How many days for an Oahu honeymoon?
Minimum 5-7 days. Ideally 7-10. Two weeks if you can swing it. I did a whole podcast episode on top mistakes couples make on Hawaii honeymoons (episode 28). One of the biggest: not staying long enough.
Which area of Oahu is best?
Depends what you want:
- Waikiki: restaurants, nightlife, shopping, convenience
- Ko Olina: resort relaxation, sunsets, fewer crowds
- North Shore: laid-back, natural beauty, outdoor activities
- Kahala: luxury and privacy near Waikiki
I covered this in best areas to stay on Oahu (episode 72).
Making Your Honeymoon Actually Good
The resort matters, but it’s not everything.
Book spa treatments early. Best couples massage times fill up fast.
Make dinner reservations before you arrive. Popular restaurants book out weeks in advance.
Build in downtime. You just survived wedding planning. Schedule beach days where you do nothing.
Book a Flytographer session (save $20 through my link) early in your trip. Professional photos you’ll have for the rest of your honeymoon.
Don’t skip the luau. I know it feels touristy but experiencing Hawaiian culture together is part of the Hawaii honeymoon.

The Bottom Line
For pure luxury and romance: The Kahala or Halekulani.
For west side sunsets: Four Seasons Ko Olina.
For North Shore adventure: Ritz-Carlton Turtle Bay.
For modern boutique in Waikiki: Halepuna Waikiki.
For iconic Instagram moments (with room caveats): The Royal Hawaiian.
Skip Hilton Hawaiian Village unless you specifically want everything on-site and don’t mind crowds.
Choose a resort that matches your actual vibe. Don’t book a party hotel if you want quiet. Don’t book a sleepy resort if you want Waikiki action.
The best Oahu honeymoon is the one that fits what you actually want.
Now go book your trip.
