Your Perfect Hawaii Honeymoon Packing List
Hawaii Packing List for the Airplane
I like to say that the honeymoon starts at the airport, which is why I’m kicking off this packing list here.
For brides, I suggest dressing up a little and telling anyone who works at the airline (from the reservation desk to the flight attendant) that you just got married and are on your honeymoon. You never know who can pull a few strings to sprinkle some perks your way.
Looking put together can increase your chance of getting upgraded on a flight. So, dress like you’re sitting in First Class. I recommend wearing a nice maxi dress, a sweater, and sandals that you might wear to a nice dinner.
As for grooms, I suggest going for a more relaxed look with khakis or dark jeans, a button-down shirt, and loafers or sneakers. No matter what you wear, make sure you’re comfortable since you’ll likely be sitting for a long time. And don’t forget to accessorize with your wedding ring!
Now let’s talk about what to pack in your carry-on bag for the flight to Hawaii.
What to Pack in Your Hawaii Carry On Bag
For the bag itself, there are some cute ones that say “bride” that can keep you in the honeymoon spirit. Plus, it tells the airline and other passengers that you just got married, so you might get a little extra attention.
Disinfecting Wipes
Disinfecting wipes may not be the most glamorous item on your honeymoon packing list, but they can certainly come in handy.
The last thing you want is to get sick on the way to your honeymoon in Hawaii, so protect yourself by wiping down your seat, the window, the armrests, and the tray table. And make sure to have hand wipes or hand sanitizer to use after you visit the lavatory.
This may not be the most romantic way to start your honeymoon, but it’s certainly better than being sick for the entire trip! So put those wipes on your honeymoon packing list and enjoy your flight to Hawaii.

You’ll want to get off your flight feeling energized and ready to hit the ground running. Noise-cancelling headphones can minimize airplane noise that can drain your body.

- C-Pap machine (yep, my hubby forgot this on our honeymoon, and it was super annoying)
- Comb and brush

- Tampons

As anyone who has gone on a honeymoon will tell you, it’s not just about the location – it’s about being with your new spouse and celebrating your love.

Here are a few items that I recommend packing for your honeymoon in Hawaii:
Ipad, Tablet, or Laptop
If you’re planning on spending some time binge-watching Netflix or Amazon Prime on your honeymoon, consider bringing an iPad or tablet.
The newest iPad has a huge screen, making it perfect for cuddling up with your new spouse to watch your favorite shows.
Plus, it can be helpful to have a bigger screen when you’re checking out a map of the island or booking an excursion.

If you’re staying at a honeymoon resort in Hawaii, you’ll want to carve out time to relax at the pool. And you’ll want to dress the part.
Here’s what I suggest:
Cute Swimsuits
Make sure you pack a cute bikini or flattering swimsuit! There are also some fun retro one-piece swimsuits that will make you feel like a bombshell.
And since you’ll probably want to spend most of your time in the water, it’s important to choose stylish and comfortable swimsuits.
His and Her Swimwear
You can also do matching couple swimsuits that are super cute for water adventures or just hanging at the beach. These ones even have UV protection so you won’t get burned.
Wide Brimmed Sun Hat
A honeymoon is the perfect time to get a little sun-kissed, but you don’t want to ruin all of your honeymoon photos with a lobster-red face. Make sure to pack a large brimmed hat to protect your face, neck, and shoulders.
Slip On Sandals
The area around the pool can be quite hot, so you’ll want to keep your feet comfortable. You can wear flip flops or cute sandals.
Pool Bag
You’ll want to make sure to have SPF lip balm, sunscreen, and a water bottle near you during your pool time. Keep it all together with a cute straw bag or waterproof bag.
Swimsuit Coverup
When it comes to a swimsuit coverup, you’ll want something that is both modest and stylish. After all, you don’t want to look like you’re just wearing a towel!
A sarong is a great option for a coverup because it can be easily wrapped around the waist and provides full coverage. Plus, it’s light and airy, which is perfect for the hot Hawaiian sun.

Of course, if you’re in Hawaii, you’ll want at least a few beach days! Whether you’re planning on spending lazy days lounging on the beach or getting active with water sports, you’ll need to bring a few items with you.

It’s really important to use reef-safe sunscreen in Hawaii. The state has actually banned all other sunscreen in order to protect the amazing Hawaiian sea life.
Flip Flops or Slip on Sandals
You’ll want to be able to kick off your shoes as soon as you hit the sand, and flip flops are easy to get on and off when you’re carrying beach stuff. Plus, they take up hardly any space in your suitcase.
Lightweight Sundress
If you’re planning on spending any time at the beach (and let’s face it, who isn’t?), you’re going to want to pack a sundress.
Not only are they comfortable and perfect for hot weather, but they’ll also save you the hassle of having to change into your swimsuit once you get to the beach.
This is extra helpful since a lot of beaches in Hawaii don’t have a restroom or an easy place to change clothing.

If you’re looking for something romantic to do on your honeymoon, why not go snorkeling?

Hawaii is also known for its incredible hiking trails. You can explore the jungle to see waterfalls, check out awesome scenic viewpoints, or discover a private beach. But, it’s important that you pack the right gear to stay safe and healthy.
Sturdy Hiking Shoes or Closed Toe Sandals
Don’t make the rookie mistake of hiking in flip flops. Invest in some sturdy hiking shoes or closed-toe sandals. And research the trails so you know what to expect in terms of crossing streams or trail conditions. Your feet will thank me later!

What if I Forget Something?
While it’s always best to pack everything you need, it’s easy to forget some items on your Hawaii packing list. But, you don’t have to worry!
There are plenty of places to shop in Hawaii. If you are staying in Waikiki, you can pick up a lot of essentials at the ABC stores (there are a million of them), Walmart, Target, or Ala Moana Center.
On Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island (Kona side), there’s a Costco, Walmart, and Target just minutes from the airports.
Hawaii Packing List FAQs
Think about the items that are really hard to replace on vacation. I’m talking about prescription glasses/sunglasses, contacts, orthotics, C-PAP machine, medications, etc. If you are packing clothing that needs specific undergarments (like a slip or t-back bra) make sure to pack them!
Locally made products like food, artwork, or clothing always make great Hawaii souvenirs because it’s something you usually can’t get on the Mainland. Maui Gold pineapple is another great option because it’s a LOT cheaper to bring home than get it shipped to your home.
If you’re spending 2 weeks in Hawaii, lucky you! It’s helpful if you can do laundry halfway through your trip so you don’t need to pack so many clothes.
